Where did 2018 go? As we approach Thanksgiving next week, Christmas and the holidays are right around the corner! Make memories with your loved ones at either the Union Square or Danville’s annual tree lighting ceremonies. Both events are held the day after Thanksgiving on November 23rd. This is a perfect opportunity to start off your holiday season!
The Macy’s 29th Annual Great Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in Union Square Park in San Francisco, right across from the front of Macy’s. This beautiful and reusable tree will feature more than 43,000 LED lights and 700 ornaments. San Francisco’s most admired Christmas tree will be lit at the end of the ceremony, around 6:50 pm. However, the events start at 5:30 pm with live entertainment by the American Conservatory Theater’s renowned Young Conservatory, the Grammy award-winning San Francisco Boys Chorus, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and music legend Darlene Love, and much more. Also, if you are a Macy’s Credit Card holder and get there before 4 pm, you may qualify for a complimentary blanket. Come join Santa and other Bay Area natives for a spectacular display of the holiday spirit. For more information visit https://unionsquareshop.com/TreeLightingUnionSquare.html.
If you are unable to make it to Union Square Park, the 40th Lighting of the Old Oak Tree in Danville is another incredible display of lights. This event takes place from 5:15 to 8:30 pm with live entertainment from local choral groups. There will also be hot beverages passed around from local businesses. Whether it’s your first time attending or 40th, it’s a magical evening! After the ceremony ends, you can also take a stroll through downtown Danville and enjoy some holiday shopping. Make sure to dress warm and bring lots of blankets! More information can be found at https://danvilleareachamber.com/events/lighting-of-the-old-oak-tree-2/.
